Instead, why not make your own cinema system at home? It might require some investment, but it’ll definitely be worth it – here’s 5 steps to building the perfect home cinema system.
Step 1: Plan the project from start to finish
Before you actually start the work, you’ll need a solid plan to follow. Do you know which room you’ll want to turn into a home movie theatre? Or perhaps you’re starting from scratch and building a whole new room?
Consider the dimensions carefully to make sure everything fits in just as it should. Map out the furniture in advance to avoid issues in the future. Make sure the room you chose can go almost fully dark for the best viewing experience. You might also want to soundproof the walls and avoid using rooms near any bedrooms.
Step 2: Prepare the room
Now that you have your plan ready, you’ll need to actually prepare the room for it to provide the best watching experience. At this point, you should already know what type of equipment you’re going to use, so you can already run all the cables inside the walls. If you’re able to, stuff some additional acoustic insulation inside.
For the flooring, carpets are usually the best idea, since they provide the best acoustics and soundproofing. If you have rows of seats, you can place the back seats at a slight riser for a better view.
Step 3: Choose the right audio system

A good TV will produce amazing image quality, and may even offer additional smart features built-in. On the negative side, TVs are generally much more expensive, and their screen size is much more limited than a projector’s. They are also heavy and easy to damage.
Projectors, on the other hand, are small, light, and easy to move around and store. You can also stretch the image from a projector on a much bigger screen, giving you a more cinema-like experience. The image quality, however, probably won’t be as good as a TV, and you’ll need two appliances – the screen and the projector itself, which might end up taking more room than a TV. They usually lack any smart features, the lightbulbs need to be replaced every once in a while, and some cheaper projectors take a while to start up.
